Nursing Adjunct Orientation

For her Mentor-Mentee Project, Michelle Vore described her role in the nursing department as the Clinical Coordinator, emphasizing the Nursing Adjunct Course.  You can access her project here (PDF).

In her project, she states that her objective “is to implement a more effective and comprehensive nursing adjunct orientation and mentorship through implementation of a Nursing Adjunct Angel Course.”  She describes her agenda, highlighting the scavenger hunt quiz used in the course and a list of adjunct orientation activities.  She concludes with the benefits of the project, which include:

• “providing a learning opportunity for adjuncts to learn from one another
• establishing ongoing support to be successful as a nurse adjunct
• identifying and reinforcing consistencies in grading clinical paperwork
• preparing adjuncts to use resources effectively
• reinforcing policies and procedures
• improving student learning outcomes”

About Michelle Vore

She honorably served in the Army National Guard from 1997 to 2008 with deployment to Iraq in 2003-2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During her military service, she was a student in Kirkwood’s nursing program and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Mount Mercy University.  She was a nursing adjunct instructor at Kirkwood beginning in 2010 teaching in various labs, clinics, online and online prerequisite courses.  In 2013, she earned her Master’s of Science in Nursing Education from Mount Mercy University.  The same year, she became a full-time nursing faculty member at Kirkwood as the Clinical Coordinator.
